Keeping Your Home Sale Private

Q. I'm selling my home but do not want anyone to know why I'm selling. How can I ensure my privacy?

A.  The first thing you need to do before you list your home is to ensure the Realtor you hire is acting as a single agent and not as a transaction broker.  In Jacksonville, the majority of Realtors are transaction brokers meaning they do not have a fiduciary duty to you.  Think of it this way - if you were going through a divorce, would you want your spouses' attorney representing you?  Transaction brokers can not represent you exclusively as they are merely facilitators.  On the other hand, Realtors acting as single agents are required to offer you full confidentially.  So before you sign your listing agreement, ask your Realtor how they will represent you, you may be surprised  Good luck.
