Attn Retirees...Should You Build New or Resale?

Updated: Oct 19, 2018

Q. I'm looking at a retirement community but unsure if I should build or buy an existing home, can you help?

A. A recent industry poll showed 9 out of 10 buyers would build if given the choice. Most resale in our retirement communities are already 10 to 15 years old and older. Add in the cost of updating these homes plus the monthly HOA and/or CDD fees that some carry and you're looking at a hefty bill. And I don't believe the prices of resale are competitive with new construction. Builders are offering closing cost assistance, upgrade packages and extra perks such as golf carts and club memberships. Do your homework before you sign on that dotted line, but building seems like a no brainer. Good luck.
